Planning

So much of knitting involves planning, adjusting, and waiting.

It's my least favorite thing about knitting. I'm far too impatient--I wanna hear those needles clacking and feel the old stitches drop off as soon as the new loops form. I want my sweater, and I want it now.

After the last sweater I tried to knit (and finally finished, once I ripped back, retooled the pattern to fit the boobs I had instead of the boobs the pattern THINKS I have, and started again), I'm making a concerted effort to plan ahead.

Last week, I knit a gauge swatch. Not only did I knit it, I also washed it, knit another one on smaller needles, washed that, and made gauge on this sassy-frassy-brassy little number:

Mods: Size 8 needles, knit in one piece until the sleeve shaping (because, as we all know, I hate seaming with a passion only rivaled by my hatred of the Republican Party and Modest Mouse).

I'm knitting it with Rowan Summer Tweed, a pretty cotton/silk blend that I've been reading is fairly difficult to work with. So we'll see how this works out.

In the meantime, I'm taking a trip to NYC this week (leaving Wednesday! Whoo!), so I've been hunting for a smaller project to take up my antsy time at the airport and on the plane. I can never focus enough to read at airports, so it'll be useful to have something to do with my fingers while waiting.

And I think I have found it:

I'm either using hand-dyed blue/chartruse yarn or some rust variagated alpaca. Leaning more towards the hand-dyed yarn, even though I'm not sure how I'll like the cabling with all those colors.

Have a great week! Stay warm and dry.

I am with you 100% on those sentiments! Who wants to plan, swatch and all that stuff. It's like having to read the instructions before putting a new gadget together. I just want to play with it NOW!! However, I am a swatch convert and force myself to atleast knit a gauge swatch but I have never washed it so I'm really impressed that you swatched, washed and swatched again! I love that yellow sweater and thinks it suits you perfectly :-)
