Yes, yes, I named this blog after a very serious Neil Young song on a very serious subject. Yes, it's a bit of a sacred cow, and even still (or partly because) I love it. But would you rather this be a blog about drug use or setting suns?
So eventually we'll get around to talking about knitting, but until then here's a video.
I love how Neil tries to get the crowd to stop the rain. That makes me love him even more. (Sorry Noelle, you won't be able to see this from work.)
Now that the opening ceremonies are over, welcome. Make yourselves at home. We'll bust out the needles soon enough.

Should we do introductions? I guess I'll start here, I didn't want to make an entire post about it.
I'm a 20-something who grew up in Tennessee and transplanted herself to Chicago two years ago. I love it here, but I don't see myself staying for the rest of my life. I tend to veer towards extremes in my personality and tastes (I'm somehow both a quiet bookworm and a snotty, authority-defying punk), but I'm also the most loyal person you'll ever meet. I'm a vegetarian who came to this place for health reasons and stayed for the morality. I like books, movies, art, music (of course), and doing things that make me less fidgety like knitting.
Okay, that's me...Noelle, it's your turn.
Introductions are good - I'm a just-turned-40-year-old working mother of two children under the age of three. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and have always lived in the suburbs which is why I am envious (and admire) my friend Eliz-eanna who not only is experiencing the fun of urban life in such a great city as Chicago but had the courage to move here by herself just to give it a try! I could have only dreamed of having the guts to do that when I was fresh out of college!
I love all things that involve working with my hands from cooking to gardening, making handmade paper, soap, mosaics and of course, KNITTING!. I am learning to be more environmentally friendly and take that as a serious challenge especially now that I have two children - 2 1/2 and 6 months old. I love animals and have a rescued greyhound "fur kid" in my family too.
You make soap? That's so awesome! I've been wanting to learn how to do that...you should write a tutorial and post it! ;)
Moving up here wasn't all that hard...I mean, it wasn't easy either, but more people should do it. I've had friends live in Japan and Guatemala for extended periods, which makes me look like a total wuss. Maybe I'm just too restless for my own good.
Do you think we should maybe do a links section on the sidebar of the main page? I can think of a few websites that I read regularly...if you have some, post the addresses here (or e-mail 'em to me) and I'll cook something up.
I love the name, can't wait to see what you two are knitting up and what kind of damage you are inflicting!
Hi Kristin! Welcome!! Looks like you go to my alma mater - NIU. What are you studying?
I'm on the fence about what next to knit - something for me (my first ever project that I'll keep for MYSELF - it's "Tangerine Twist" on knitty.com or picking out a pattern for a scarf for my brother's Christmas present. Now that I have two kids the budget for Christmas is even tighter, but I found some lovely Joseph Galler Peruvian Tweed Superfine Alpaca on eBay and was able to get it for half of retail - I love eBay!! Check out this link for two really beautiful men's scarves and a poignant story behind why they were designed. www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/scarves/matthewshepard.html
Yay! Comments! Hi Kristin, thanks for stopping by (even though I told you about it, haha).
I'm still all about those Matthew Shepard scarves. Go for the more difficult one--you can do it, Noelle! So you put in time in Dekalb, too? Have you been to the Yarn Exchange there? I think I mentioned it to you before, but Kristin did/does work there. Sounds like we need to make a field trip.
