I have been on a self-imposed moratorium from personal knitting lately.
Trying to finish up as many holiday gifts as I can, I've discovered that many of my original plans for presents are either not working out so well or insanely boring to knit. The herringbone scarf? Snooze. I hate finishing and blocking--I just want to knit!
My solution: Something pour moi, perhaps?
I feel guilty. I should be trying to figure out more stuff for my family, but right now it's just not working out.
So I'm down to either this:
Or this:
I have enough yarn for both. Hmmmmm...

It IS hard to work on gifts when you have some patterns (and yarn) calling to you. How about approaching it like exercise and find a way to motivate (and reward) your self. Like do X inches of the Snooze scarf and then allow yourself to work on something fun? But make yourself work on the scarf a little bit each day - if it IS like exercise then you'll feel better (and relieved) after you do it! On the other gifts (and I speak from experience!!!) try and not be too abitious in your choices. I think the Koigu lattice scarf is lovely and you could probably finish it in a weekend. If Koigu yarn is cost prohibitive you could substitute some pretty sock yarn instead?
I feel your pain on the finishing and blocking. I have my own Koigu scarf sitting in a drawer with ends hanging out and edges curling because I haven't done the finish work!!
Well, I'm now a good 60% of the way through that top sweater. It takes heavy worsted weight yarn, and all this free time has helped. I've also discovered that the Russian join is the greatest technique ever.
I am working on a new gift right now, but I want to actually post something detailed about it when I'm finished.
